The local government in Nineveh announced the conclusion of the competition for the Najafi Street development project on the right side of Mosul.
Nineveh Governor Abdul Qadir al-Dakhil said that the local government is determined to revive the old city with its heritage landmarks that were subjected to major destruction during the military operations against ISIS.
On the sidelines of his attendance at the closing ceremony for distributing prizes for the Najafi Street Revival Architecture Competition, which had been launched by the Mosul Municipality, Al-Dakhil explained that prizes were distributed to 3 winners of the competition, for which an amount of 15 million Iraqi dinars was allocated, in addition to announcing the assignment of a project to develop the facades of the Goldsmiths Market in the Old City .
The Municipality of Mosul launched the competition in cooperation with the Mosul Heritage Foundation, the Heritage House, the Library of Books, and the prestigious University of Mosul, with the support of the German University of Dortmund.
This ceremony comes hours after Nineveh Governorate sent an invitation to 6 foreign companies to implement the riverfront project for the city of Mosul extending from the Iron Bridge to the Fifth Bridge, which includes the reconstruction of 275 heritage houses, a boat marina, a corniche, parks, heritage cafes, and tourist sites, at a total cost of 98 billion dinars and a period of time. Implementation does not exceed two years.
Al-Dakhil revealed the work to include and include old Mosul on the World Heritage List in cooperation with the federal government.
