The University of Mosul revealed the start of implementing the terms of the agreement concluded between the Universities of Mosul and the German University of Heidelberg, which was signed at the beginning of last February , as the training course entitled “Developing the Skills of Reading and Translating Cuneiform Writings” was launched for students of the College of Archeology.
A number of students of preliminary studies at the College of Archeology at the University of Mosul, and a number of employees of the Inspectorate of Antiquities and Heritage of Nineveh Governorate, participated in the course , where Professor Stephen The head of the Assyritics Institute at Heidelberg University in Germany gave lectures .
The course aims to develop students’ skills and enhance their scientific ability to read cuneiform writings by intensively studying the grammar of the Akkadian language, memorizing cuneiform signs, and practicing how to implement them on clay, in addition to receiving various lectures on the history and civilization of Mesopotamia .
The course program also includes field tours to important archaeological sites in Nineveh Governorate, where the course work is scheduled to continue until Monday. Corresponding to May 13 of this year.
