Yesterday, Friday, the Department of Mine Affairs in the Ministry of Environment announced the launch of a campaign to complete the removal of mines and clear the remaining areas, which it described as limited, in the liberated governorates.
Director of Media of the Department of Mines Affairs, Mustafa Hamid, said, “The Department of Mines Affairs, under its direct supervision and follow-up, and in accordance with issued work orders, launched a work campaign to remove mines and clear the remaining limited areas in all liberated governorates.”
He added, “The campaign includes removing and clearing mines for more than 11 square kilometers in Anbar Governorate, and more than half a square kilometer in Diyala and Kirkuk. The campaign aims to clear 12 square kilometers, and more than 17 square kilometers in Nineveh, and also in Salah al-Din Governorate.” Approximately 13 square kilometers, stressing that “all clearance and removal work is issued by the Department of Mine Affairs and is subject to monitoring and reporting according to a series of applicable national and international standards.”
He continued, “The Compensation Department of the Baghdad Provincial Council is the concerned and responsible authority for compensating victims of mines, war remnants, explosive devices, and terrorist and military acts in the capital.”
