Yesterday , Friday, Nineveh Police warned the owners of quarries, boats, and casinos on the banks of the Tigris in Mosul, of the rise in the level of the Tigris River due to floods and the increase in water releases from the Mosul Dam .
A security source said “The River Police Department of Nineveh Police has warned and informed those working on the banks of the Tigris River in the governorate of the increase in releases from the Mosul Dam due to the rise in the dam’s reserves as a result of the recent floods .”
The source added, “The releases are currently 700 cubic meters per second and will rise to a thousand cubic meters per second. Therefore, the rise in the level of the Tigris River will cover the mechanisms that work in the quarries on the banks of the Tigris River and will pose a danger to them and to the tourist boats that operate on the banks of the Tigris River, in addition to… Families who frequent casinos in those areas .”
The source attributed the reasons for the increase in releases to “the rise in the dam level against the backdrop of recent rains, torrents, and floods, in addition to information that was also available regarding the increase in releases coming from Turkey by the order of 1,500 cubic meters per second.”
