The Ministry of Environment announced that the northern areas of Nineveh Governorate are free of radioactive contamination, confirming the provision of all necessary supplies to work in accordance with the laws and specifications set by the Radiation Protection Center .
A statement from the ministry stated that “a technical team from the Radiation Protection Division in the Nineveh Environment Directorate conducted field surveys in the Bartella district and the Mosul Dam, within the framework of the efforts made by the Radiation Protection Center and its division in the governorates to protect humans and the environment from the dangers of radioactive contamination .”
He added, “The technical teams of the Directorate have withdrawn samples of water and soil for the purpose of subjecting them to laboratory tests and ensuring that they are free of radiation , and these procedures come within periodic follow-up , ” stressing the provision of all necessary supplies to work in accordance with the laws and specifications set by the Center for Radiation Protection .
He explained that the directorate has developed action plans related to radiation surveys, taking samples of soil and water, treating pollution, and ensuring that they are free of radiation through on-site and laboratory tests .
He continued that field readings of radiation scanning devices and the results of laboratory tests of environmental models pulled from the sites proved that there were no indicators of radioactive contamination .
