Yesterday , Tuesday, the Ministry of Industry and Minerals announced the signing of 4 contracts with an Iraqi company and 3 Emirati, American and Chinese companies, to establish projects for sulfur, compound fertilizers and sodium carbonate in 4 governorates, while indicating that the industrial city project in Basra will provide more than 12 thousand job opportunities .
Ministry spokeswoman Doha Al-Jubouri said The Ministry has begun its steps towards reform and development in line with the government program by focusing on important strategic industries, which include steel, iron, petrochemical, fertilizer and pharmaceutical industries, as well as sulfur, phosphate, cement and chemical industries .
Al-Jubouri noted, “The Ministry held the Mineral, Petrochemical, and Fertilizer Investment Conference in Baghdad , where many important investment opportunities were presented, in addition to another conference in Basra Governorate, the “ Industrial Partnerships Forum , ” during which many investment opportunities were presented for a number of industries. Strategy and detailed industries .
She explained that 4 contracts were signed to establish projects related to sulfur, compound fertilizers, and sodium carbonate, noting These projects will be implemented in the governorates of Nineveh, Salah al-Din, Anbar, and Basra .
She pointed out that “two projects will be implemented in partnership between the Mishraq Sulfur General Company and an American company to establish an integrated project for the production and purification of sulfur in the Al-Zaka field in Nineveh Governorate, with a capacity of 2.5 million tons annually .”
The second project comes through the General Company for Mishraq Sulfur, in partnership with Al-Rafidain Company, and includes the rehabilitation of a line to produce refined sulfur in the Mishraq field, with a capacity of 1.5 million annually .
She continued, “The third project includes the production of compound fertilizers at the General Company for the Northern Fertilizers Manufacturing in Baiji, in partnership with a specialized Emirati company, with a capacity of 240 thousand tons annually,” noting, “It will produce types of compound phosphate fertilizers that will contribute to supporting the agricultural sector. ” .
She pointed out, “Another contract was signed to establish a sodium carbonate project in Anbar Governorate with a capacity of 90 thousand tons annually, and this material is used in the glass industry and other industries, in addition to obtaining the approval of the Reconstruction and Investment Committee for the industrial city project in the production of iron and steel in Basra Governorate in partnership with a company.” A specialized Chinese factory, which will be established on an area of 3,000 dunams and will include factories specialized in the production of iron, steel, and aluminum. It is hoped that this project will provide more than 12,000 job opportunities .”
It also indicated that the Supreme Committee for Reconstruction and Investment had obtained approval for a project to produce glass bottles and jars in Anbar Governorate, with a capacity of 60,000 tons annually, in addition to obtaining approval for another project to produce flat float glass with a capacity of 600 tons per day .
She stated, “The Ministry has many projects in partnership with the private sector, which were opened during the last period, including the production of modern sprinklers with a capacity of 1,100 sprinklers annually. These sprinklers are produced according to American Vale specifications, and are supplied to the Ministry of Agriculture .”
Al-Jubouri added, “A plant to produce Dab fertilizer and a urea production plant has been opened in partnership with the private sector, with a capacity of half a million tons annually,” noting “new partnerships that will be agreed upon, including restoring the phosphate project in Anbar Governorate and other industries such as the sugar industry in partnership with the private sector.” .
