The US State Department called on the Iraqi government to provide guarantees that the displaced will not be forced to return to their areas by force , especially in Sinjar district .
The US Under Secretary of State for Civil Security, Democracy, and Human Rights, Ezra Zia, said during her visit to the Lalish Temple in the Sheikhan district of Nineveh Governorate that Washington encouraged the Iraqi government to achieve tangible progress in appointing the mayor of Sinjar district, establishing a local police force, reconstruction, and funding service personnel .
She also called on the Iraqi government to address concerns about armed factions in areas liberated from ISIS control, such as Sinjar and the Nineveh Plain, and the rest of the areas where components of Iraqi society are present .
Displaced Yazidis in the Sheikhan camp called on the Iraqi authorities to be patient with the decision to close the camps and forcibly return the mourners , accusing the Iraqi Ministry of Immigration of ignoring the suffering of the displaced over the past period. They also accused it of distributing expired materials in the camps .
of the Yazidis in Iraq and the world, Karim Suleiman, confirmed that Washington gave reassurances to the displaced Yazidi component that the camps will not be closed before all requirements for the return of the displaced are completed. Suleiman said that the forced return of the displaced is rejected by the people of Sinjar and the United States as well .
The representative for Sinjar district, Vian Dakhil, stressed the need for the Iraqi authorities to commit not to forcibly close the camps and return the displaced to their areas by force . Dakhil said that it is illogical to close the camps and return the displaced to Sinjar to live in new camps because of the destruction that they suffered during the ISIS era .
Representative Vian Dakhil confirmed that returning to Sinjar under the current circumstances is not possible, indicating that Sinjar is still under the control of unknown armed parties, in addition to the fact that it suffers from the absence of a local administration and security forces from the district, in addition to the absence of infrastructure, reconstruction, and other requirements. The representative of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Vian Dakhil, revealed efforts to close the Ministry of Immigration and Displacement, due to its failure to deal with the file of the displaced in the country, as she put it, indicating that the ministry had not provided anything to the displaced throughout the previous years and that it could be replaced by a body that would be affiliated with the Ministry of Labor or the Prime Minister’s Office .
