Nineveh Governor Abdul Qader Al-Dakhil stressed the need to expedite the completion of the rehabilitation of Mosul University Stadium within 20 days, while adhering to the highest international specifications .
Al-Dakhil said in an interview that “the file of providing a suitable stadium for local sports clubs, most notably Mosul Club, is important,” indicating that “the project includes increasing the stadium’s seating capacity and completing the guest house for sports delegations.”
Al-Dakhil added, “Efforts will be intensified in coordination with the Reconstruction Fund for Affected Areas to solve all technical problems that may hinder the completion of the project on time.”
Mosul University Stadium has been under reconstruction for nearly two years, and is closed to sports activities in the city .
Mosul Club faces major challenges in the Premier League, as it occupies the fifth place despite the difficulties it suffers in moving between stadiums. The club is also the only team that plays all its matches away from home, both home and away, as a result of the destruction of its main stadium during the war on ISIS .
According to observers, logistical difficulties are one of the most prominent obstacles to the development of the team’s performance, as the club is forced to move constantly, which increases the fatigue and costs associated with travel. They stressed that completing the rehabilitation of the University of Mosul stadium could contribute significantly to improving the club’s situation, as it will provide them with a local stadium to play their matches in front of their fans, which constitutes a moral boost for the team and reduces the logistical burdens facing it .
