A security source in Nineveh reported the establishment of a joint operations and coordination room on the Iraqi-Syrian border, west of the province .
The source said, “The new joint operations room sector includes the areas of Al-Baaj, Sinjar, and Rabia district, and this step comes within the framework of enhancing security cooperation to confront common challenges .”
He stressed that “channels of coordination have been opened within the operations room with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham to ensure the stability of the region .”
The source pointed out that “the establishment of this room aims to enhance control over the common borders and prevent the infiltration of terrorist elements, especially in light of the complex security situation in the region .”
He explained that “coordination with the various Syrian parties includes exchanging security information and coordinating field operations to ensure the protection of the borders and prevent any suspicious activities .”
The Iraqi-Syrian border, especially in the Nineveh region, is witnessing intensive security reinforcements to confront the ongoing terrorist threats. Iraqi forces have also increased their military presence on the border strip to prevent the infiltration of foreign fighters and limit cross-border criminal activities.
