An Iraqi security official revealed, yesterday, Friday , that there are ongoing discussions between the international coalition and the Iraqi government aimed at receiving ISIS elements detained by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and transferring them to Iraq .
The source said that the agreement, if completed, will include the transfer of about 2,000 ISIS detainees, all of whom are Iraqis, to Al-Jadaa camp in Nineveh Governorate .
He also referred to a plan to transfer 900 families per month from Al-Hol camp in Syria to Al-Jadaa camp, in addition to 160 Iraqi families currently residing in Al-Roj camp in Syria .
The source confirmed that Iraq is moving forward with this agreement in coordination with the international coalition, as part of efforts to enhance security and manage the file of detainees and returnees from conflict zones .
The discussions coincide with a tour of the region conducted by General Michael Kurilla, Commander of the US Central Command, which also included Iraq and Syria to resolve the issue of ISIS fighters and the camps associated with them .
As part of the tour, he visited the Al-Hawl camp for displaced persons in northeastern Syria, which, along with the Al-Roj camp, houses more than 40,000 displaced persons, many of whom are affiliated with the organization .
The US command statement indicated that these camps pose a threat to creating a new generation of ISIS unless international efforts are made to return the fighters, rehabilitate them, and integrate them into their communities .
The statement confirmed that there are more than 9,000 ISIS detainees from more than 50 countries being held in centers run by the Syrian Democratic Forces, which is described as the “ISIS army” in detention .
General Kurilla explained that the US Central Command is focusing on supporting the return of the residents of the Al-Hawl and Al-Roj camps to their countries of origin, and is working with the international community to transfer ISIS fighters to their countries for a final decision on their case.
