Nineveh Provincial Council member Abdullah Atheel Al-Nujaifi confirmed that the Committee on Lands Prohibited from Building is continuing its work with the aim of reaching fair solutions in accordance with the law and the constitution.

Al-Nujaifi told Shafaq News Agency, “The committee carefully reviews the various cases to ensure finding fair and equitable solutions that are in line with laws and regulations.”

Al-Nujaifi explained that “the Committee for Lands Prohibited from Construction has met with many of the affected people and reviewed their cases with the aim of reaching fair solutions that guarantee the rights of all parties,” indicating that “the committee works in accordance with the principles of the law and the constitution, and that its recommendations will be issued soon to reflect its commitment to justice and achieving the public interest.”

He stressed that “the committee will continue to work sincerely to address issues affecting citizens’ rights, in a way that serves the public interest and ensures the fair and equitable application of laws and regulations.”

It is noteworthy that influential parties have been preventing construction on the outskirts of Mosul for more than a decade, citing demographic change, which has increased tensions over these lands.

The Director of Mosul Municipality, Abdul Sattar Al-Habou, said earlier that more than 9,000 citizens, including families of martyrs and wounded, own government bonds, but they are prohibited from building.
