The Ministry of Interior announced, on Tuesday, that it would take immediate and decisive measures against rioters in stadiums .
The ministry said, “After the unfortunate events that took place in the stadiums of Karbala, Al-Fayhaa and Nineveh during the Iraqi Premier League matches, and under strict instructions from the Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Kamil Al-Shammari, immediate and decisive measures were taken against the rioters, with the aim of maintaining the security and safety of the stadiums and ensuring a sporting environment free of chaos and violence .”
She added, “The Minister’s directives stipulated the immediate arrest of anyone who causes riots inside stadiums or assaults referees, players or administrative staff inside stadiums, and referring the attackers to the competent judicial authorities to implement judicial procedures .”
She pointed out that “the directives also included circulating the photos and names of the rioters permanently and preventing them from entering stadiums in the future as a deterrent measure to ensure that these actions that violate sports security are not repeated .”
She stressed that “these decisions come within the framework of securing a safe and riot-free sports environment in all Iraqi stadiums, to ensure that sports competitions are an arena for fair competition and respect for the laws,” noting that “the stadium security force responsible for securing the stadiums will continue to work firmly and without mercy with any individual who seeks to create chaos inside the stadiums .”
It stated that it “will continue to implement these measures to ensure safe stadiums for all teams and fans.”
