The Iraqi Council of Ministers decided, on Tuesday, to require a health insurance document to grant an entry visa to the country, including the Kurdistan Region .
The Prime Minister’s Media Office said, “The Council of Ministers held its regular session headed by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani,” indicating that “in order to manage and organize the affairs of expatriates, the Council approved the adoption of the Iraqi National Insurance Platform for the categories (expatriates and foreign visitors) .”
He added, “The decision included obligating the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Labor and Social Affairs, Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, the National Investment Commission, and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq Representation Office not to grant any visa or entry permit, except after obtaining an insurance document from the aforementioned platform, based on the provisions of the Health Insurance Law (22 of 2020) .”
It is noteworthy that a big controversy took place a few days ago at the Safwan border crossing in Basra, when visitors from the State of Bahrain entered, as a health insurance document was required, which raised the entry visa fee to $160, after it was $80.
And in 2023, Iraq announced the activation of the health insurance system, after its law was approved by Parliament in 2020 .
