The Iraqi Border Guard Command announced yesterday , Friday, the killing of two workers who attacked an Iraqi force in Zakho District in the Kurdistan Region .

The command said in a statement that “Border Forces fighters clashed with terrorist elements belonging to the banned PKK organization , in the Batufa district of Zakho district .”

PKK elements who attacked our patrols were killed, by strengthening our forces, surrounding and searching the area, and pursuing the perpetrators . “

A security source had confirmed earlier on Friday that two members of the Iraqi border guards were killed and another was injured in an armed attack targeting one of the border points in the Batifa district, north of the city of Zakho .

The source added, “The attack was carried out by militants affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, which targets from time to time the military points of the Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi border guards in the border areas adjacent to Turkey .”

While the Iraqi Ministry of Interior confirmed, on Friday, the killing and wounding of three members of the Iraqi Border Guard Forces, in an attack carried out by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party in Zakho .

The ministry said in a statement that “while the border guard forces were carrying out their duty to secure the Iraqi-Turkish border strip in the Bativa district of Zakho, north of Dohuk, they were exposed to gunfire by elements of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party .”

She added, “This shooting led to the killing of two fighters from the First Border Brigade in the First Region Border Command, and another fighter was injured .”

Last week, the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced the seizure of weapons and ammunition belonging to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party in the area of Operation Claw-Lock in the Kurdistan Region .

On April 17, 2022, the Turkish army launched Operation Claw-Lock against PKK strongholds in the Metina, Zap, and Avashin-Basyan regions of the Kurdistan Region .
