Assistant researcher in the project, Mahmoud Jumaa, said during the launch ceremony organized at the Mosul Heritage House, “The project is concerned with archiving and documenting heritage music and Mosul maqam and preserving it from extinction.” The organizers of the project presented songs and maqamat that were well received by those in attendance who were interested in this type of music and heritage. Jumaa added that the idea of ​​the project comes with the support of the British Council, the American University in Sulaymaniyah, the British University of Exeter, the partnership of the University of Mosul and local organizations, indicating that the goal of the project is “to create a musical memory for the governorate.”Nineveh, consolidating the Maqam culture in society, reviving this musical style and preserving it from extinction.”
