The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) found 5 bombs hidden inside the walls of the historic Al-Nuri Mosque in the city of Mosul in northern Iraq, the organization said in a statement.
The United Nations agency said that five large explosive devices, designed to cause major destruction, were found inside the southern wall of the prayer hall on Tuesday.
The statement stated: “These explosive devices were hidden inside a specially reconstructed section of the wall. The Iraqi authorities were immediately notified, secured the area, and the situation is now under complete control.”
