The Security Committee in Nineveh reassured that the situation on the Iraqi-Syrian border, west of the governorate, is under control and that there are no fears of prisoners of the Syrian Democratic Forces infiltrating Iraqi territory, in conjunction with the issuance of a general amnesty for prisoners by the SDF .
security source in Nineveh said, “The Supreme Security Committee headed by Governor Abdul Qadir al-Dakhil held a meeting in the governorate building attended by security and military leaders, including the Commander of Nineveh Operations, the Commander of Mobilization Operations and other formations, to discuss the security situation on the Iraqi-Syrian border, specifically the areas west of Nineveh, coinciding with The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) issued a general amnesty to its prisoners .
For his part, the head of the Security and Defense Committee in the Nineveh Provincial Council, Muhammad al-Kaka’i , announced that “the majority of the prisoners are Arabs and foreigners, and there are no Iraqis among them .”
Al-Kakai said in a press conference after the meeting “There are no fears on the Iraqi-Syrian border in the areas west of Nineveh after the Syrian Democratic Forces released 1,561 of its prisoners after issuing a general amnesty for them, the majority of whom are Arabs, foreigners, and Syrians, and none of them are Iraqis .”
He explained, “The conditions now in Nineveh are not the same as they were before 2014. Nineveh enjoys security and political stability, in addition to the borders, which are no longer what they were in the past, and are witnessing strict security measures, whether by joint patrols of the border, the army, the PMF, and the police, or supported by logistical materials that have completely secured the borders .”
He continued, “There is no danger to the current situation, and there are precautionary operations, surveillance cameras, and preemptive operations.”
