The Ministry of Water Resources announced About a major campaign to dig wells in Sinjar District, and while it confirmed the digging of more than 50 wells in a number of Nineveh districts and villages, it identified two directions in the process of digging wells .

Director General of the Ministry’s Ground Water Authority, Maytham Khudair, said, “Many wells have been dug for the displaced, especially in the governorates of Nineveh, Anbar, and Diyala,” noting that “there is a major campaign in Sinjar to dig wells for the Yazidis .”

He added, “Sinjar district, the villages of Al-Qahtaniyah, Al-Adnaniyah, and the village of Sinuna are completely dependent on groundwater,” stressing that “more than 50 wells have been drilled in those areas .”

He pointed out, “The Authority worked to dig wells for the border forces, the army sectors, and the Popular Mobilization Forces .”

He explained, “There are two directions for the process of digging wells: private benefit and public benefit. In the case of digging wells for public benefit, they are free, and they include villages, schools, border posts, and water stations, especially those located at the tails of streams .”

He continued: “As for the private benefit, it comes through a request from farmers to dig wells for a specific price, as the drilling process is carried out according to modern methods and technologies.”
