Yesterday , Friday, the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, called for a million-man demonstration in Tahrir Square in the center of the capital, Baghdad, to support the Palestinian cause .
Al-Sadr said in a statement read by the preacher of the Kufa Mosque, “I call on my Iraqi brothers of all stripes, except the corrupt, to come out with a million-man demonstration that reflects a true picture of the extent of the Iraqi people’s zealous sympathy for the Palestinian cause and for their afflicted brothers in Gaza, on the first Friday after the 17th of Rabi’ al-Awwal of this year.” Where the greatest light and the most honorable Messenger were born .
Al-Sadr stressed that “the demonstration will be peaceful in Tahrir Square in Baghdad, with shrouds worn, so that your voice and image will be heard to the entire world. Do not fall short in this, of certain hope, for this is what pleases His Messenger, his family, and our great authorities, living and dead .”
This is the second time that Al-Sadr has called for a million-man demonstration to support the Palestinian cause and to support Gaza, which is witnessing a violent war between Hamas and the Israeli army. On October 9, 2023, he called on his supporters to hold a million-man demonstration.
