A member of the Kirkuk Provincial Council representing the Arab component, Raad Saleh, explained that the political agreement between the political blocs requires that the Turkmen assume the position of governor after the Kurds .
He said, “The political agreement under which the Kirkuk administration was formed stipulates that the position of governor be for the Turkmen after the end of Governor Rebwar Taha’s term as governor .”
He added, “The Presidency of the Provincial Council met today in the presence of the nine members and all members, and the boycotters were invited to return to the dialogue table and return to the Provincial Council meetings because the dialogue and agreement will preserve the rights of all components, including the Turkmen .”
He stressed that “the agreement on the position of governor of Kirkuk was made according to a tripartite rotation. The Kurds will first receive the position of governor, the Turkmen will come after them for a specific period, and then the Arabs will take over the position. This rotation ensures the participation of all blocs in the Kirkuk Provincial Council in the administration of the governorate .”
He continued, “The Turkmen brothers, along with the Democrats, must return to the council meetings, present their candidates, end the boycott, and work to guarantee the rights of all components in Kirkuk, because we have begun and want to serve the components of Kirkuk .”
Yesterday, Saturday, the head of the Kirkuk Provincial Council, Muhammad Ibrahim Hafez, called on the Turkmen Front and the Kurdistan Democratic Party to submit the names of their candidates to fill administrative positions and end the boycott .
Last Thursday, the Sovereignty Party in Kirkuk announced its boycott of the meetings of the Kirkuk Provincial Council, which the Council President called for on Saturday, along with the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Turkmen in the boycott.
