A Pentagon official said the United States is aware of reports in the media about possible plans to withdraw US forces from Iraq.
The American official confirmed, in press statements, that his country’s government “is not yet ready to announce any specific dates for the withdrawal of American forces from Iraq.”
Reuters had previously revealed that the Iraqi government and the international coalition led by Washington against ISIS had reached an understanding regarding a plan to end its operations.
The agency quoted sources as saying, “The plan includes the withdrawal of hundreds of international coalition forces from Iraq by September 2025, while the rest will withdraw in 2026.”
Reuters quoted a senior US official as saying: “We have an agreement, it is now just a matter of when we announce it.”
