A British report confirmed that the United States is planning a long-term presence in Iraq, especially in the Kurdistan region, indicating that the American withdrawal from Iraq represents a major goal for Iran and its close allies in Iraq.

A report by the British website “Middle East Eye” said that the issue of the future presence of American forces in Iraq has become a matter of agreement and is only waiting for time to be announced, but it indicated that an American force will be stationed in Erbil to be an important line of communication with its continued presence in Syria.

He pointed out that the American and Iraqi negotiators agreed to withdraw from Iraq in two stages, the first in September 2025, and the second in late 2026, due to the American forces being exposed to repeated attacks by factions close to Iran, but the report indicated that the agreement still needs “final approval” from the leaders in Baghdad and Washington.
