The representative of Nineveh Governorate, Abdul Rahim Al-Shammari, stressed his rejection of arming the Kurdish Peshmerga forces with advanced weapons and ammunition, indicating that arming the Peshmerga with heavy artillery is considered a threat to the security of Nineveh Governorate.

The head of the Progress Party, Mohammed al-Halbousi, also warned against arming the Kurdish Peshmerga forces with heavy artillery, stressing that this would pose a threat to security in the provinces of Nineveh and Kirkuk.

He added that this type of weapon should be restricted to the Iraqi army only, and we constantly call for strengthening its capabilities and potential.

In response, the Kurdistan Democratic Party MP, Majid Shankali, confirmed that Halbousi’s statements rejecting the arming of the Peshmerga came to please Iran’s allies in Iraq.

Shankali said that one of them was very arrogant and crossed the line and wanted to play alone without taking into account the instructions and directives of the regional party supporting and sponsoring the existing political system, so he was expelled and banned from playing for an unlimited period. He added that Halbousi has now begun flirting with that regional party and those close to it with the Diyala deal, passing through Kirkuk, and last but not least, his refusal to equip the Peshmerga forces with cannons and weapons under the pretext of defending the Sunni component.
