A pager is a wireless communication device similar to a walkie-talkie that is used to exchange voice messages or an automatic pager. It is a small, portable electronic device used to receive short messages or the number of the person trying to contact the device .
Today, about 3,000 citizens were injured in various areas of Lebanon, including the southern suburb of Beirut, after the Zionist entity hacked their communications devices and exploded them simultaneously .
The pager is an old device that has been used since the nineties of the last century. It was made in 1949 by the Canadian inventor Alfred Gross, who invented it for medical purposes and used it as a means of communication between doctors in hospitals .
It is used to broadcast messages written in encrypted and abbreviated codes, and its network can cover large areas provided that transmission columns are available .
The pager is still used in a number of sectors, especially medical and security, because it does not require constant maintenance, its battery lasts a long time, it can be used on the go, and it works even during disasters or power outages .
These devices have evolved over time to include use in multiple fields such as business and personal communications .
It works via wireless calling by receiving a signal from a transmitter. When someone sends a message to the pager, this message is converted into a radio signal that can be received by the pager, which in turn alerts or vibrates to alert its owner of the presence of a message. After receiving the message, the user can call the number on the pager screen to respond to the message or communicate with the sender.
Lebanese Health Minister Firas Abiad announced 8 citizens, including a child, were killed and more than 2,800 were injured in the “pager” bombings in a number of Lebanese regions .
Al-Abyad said in a press conference: “8 people were killed and more than 2,800 others were injured as a result of the explosion of wireless devices in different parts of the country .”
He added, “There are about 200 seriously injured people, and about 100 are in critical condition .”
He pointed out that “the majority of injuries recorded so far are in the face, hand or abdomen.”
