The Integrity Commission announced the arrest of 4 suspects in the Mosul Municipality Directorate for committing a violation of their job duties.

The Commission stated in a statement that its teams arrested the head of the Encroachments Department in the Mosul Municipality, along with 3 employees, for allowing encroachment on lands belonging to the municipality and not taking legal action against them.

She explained that her teams arrested the accused after moving to Al-Samah neighborhood in Mosul and completing the investigation and verification operations and verifying the accuracy of the information, about the Mosul Municipality employees, in coordination with some contractors, giving the numbers of plots of land belonging to the Municipality Directorate; for the purpose of encroachment and building on them and selling them to citizens; in exchange for sums of money.

The Integrity Commission also arrested an employee working in the Nineveh Water Directorate, red-handed, with a bribe of 1.25 million dinars in his possession in exchange for collecting the amount of water fees due from one of the car washing and lubrication garages, amounting to six million dinars.

The Integrity Commission said that the accused manipulated the value of wages, so that the amount became six hundred thousand dinars, and the collection receipt issued by the Nineveh Water Directorate was seized.

Mosul Municipality denied what was stated in the Federal Integrity Commission’s statement about arresting its director on charges of violating the law.

Mosul Municipality stated in a statement that: “Some pages on social media circulated news that the Government Media and Communications Office in the Integrity Commission reported that a team composed of the Commission’s Investigation Directorate in Nineveh Governorate was able to arrest the Director of Mosul Municipality and officials of the Violations Department for allowing encroachment on lands belonging to the municipality and not taking legal action against them.”

He said, “This news is untrue. What happened was the arrest of some inspectors of violations in the Al-Samah neighborhood within the flower sector due to suspicions of corruption, and they are under investigation.”

In addition, the Director of Mosul Municipality, Abdul Sattar Al-Habou, confirmed that Mosul Municipality will pursue some of those who spread false news, describing them as weak-minded people.

Al-Habou pointed out that the Mosul Municipality reserves its legal right regarding the false news that has been circulated, which has no connection to the truth.
