The Iraqi Ministry of Health has imposed new fees on medical services provided in its institutions .
It was stated in a document issued by the ministry The Opinion Authority decided, based on the requirements of the public interest and for the purpose of providing the necessary requirements for health services in government institutions, to implement the new fees in hospitals, specialized centers and primary health care centers as of October 1, 2024 .
The Authority explained in the document that the price of the review card in primary health care centers will be 1,000 dinars, while the price of the review card in consulting clinics and outpatient clinics in hospitals and specialized centers will be 3,000 thousand dinars .
It was also decided that the price of a prescription drug in pharmacies, outpatient clinics, consulting clinics, and specialized and health centers would be one thousand dinars .
The decision included that emergency visits would be free of charge, and the cost of hospitalization in public and specialized hospitals was set at 10,000 dinars, paid once, regardless of the number of days of hospitalization, including hospitalization in oncology and cancer treatment hospitals, and atomic medicine and radiation hospitals .
The Ministry also directed the placement of billboards in hospitals to clarify the differences between real prices, services and imposed prices, in addition to launching advertising campaigns regarding requests and imposed fees, and specifying visiting times for hospitalized patients.
The Ministry of Health had imposed a fee of (five thousand dinars) on every health employee who submits any written request for any need, starting from the first of October, for the purpose of purchasing and providing health supplies for government health institutions with these fees taken from employees in exchange for submitting each written request, which sparked angry reactions from employees .
