Iraqi Minister of Agriculture Abbas Jabr al-Maliki announced the formation of teams in the ministry to solve problems related to agricultural lands in the disputed areas between Nineveh Governorate and the Kurdistan Region, in order to include them in the agricultural plans for the 2024-2025 season .

Minister of Agriculture Abbas Jabr al-Maliki said in a press conference in Nineveh Governorate that “the ministry has formed teams to solve problems related to agricultural lands in the disputed areas between Nineveh Governorate and the Kurdistan Region, in order to include them in the agricultural plan and ensure the provision of government support to them to increase crop production, especially wheat .”

He added, “Our visit to Nineveh aims to review the problems of the agricultural sector in the governorate and preparations for launching the current season 2024-2025, and to follow up on preparations for wheat cultivation in light of the upcoming winter season, in which rain is expected to be scarce .”

The Minister confirmed that “the Ministry of Agriculture has contracted with companies to provide Iraq with 12,000 pivot sprinklers to support agricultural production, indicating that the Ministry will distribute these sprinklers to the governorates,” noting that “the largest share of them will be for Nineveh Governorate due to its importance in terms of agricultural production, especially for the wheat crop .”

Al-Maliki pointed out that “we opened warehouses for the Ministry of Agriculture in the Wadi Akab area on the right side of Mosul after rehabilitating them. They number 12 warehouses with a total storage capacity of nearly 20 thousand tons, and it is hoped that they will serve more than 3 thousand farmers and peasants from the people of Mosul.”
