The head of the Parliamentary Human Rights Committee, Arshad Al-Salihi, confirmed yesterday , Friday, that the “detained terrorist” in Kirkuk Governorate is affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party .
Al-Salihi said “A PKK terrorist was captured by our security forces .”
He added, “The National Security Service forces were able to arrest the terrorist affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party who carried out the attack on Mr. Saygin Haji Oglu, the official of the Turkmen House Organization in Kirkuk .”
“We hope that this terrorist will not be released, like other terrorists who burned our historical monuments ,” he continued.
Earlier on Friday, the National Security Service announced the arrest of the suspect in the bombing of a “commercial store” in Kirkuk after a precise surveillance operation .
The statement said, “Six days after carrying out an attack targeting a commercial store in Kirkuk Governorate with an explosive device that resulted in the injury of the store owner and his wife, the National Security Service detachments, in coordination with the General Directorate of Asayish Operations in Sulaymaniyah, were able to arrest the main suspect in the terrorist operation .”
Investigations revealed, according to the statement, that “the accused monitored the targeted site several times, where he hid the explosive device inside a bag and placed it in front of the site, then detonated it remotely using a mobile phone .”
The statement continued, “Immediately after the incident, the National Security detachments formed a specialized working team and activated intelligence and technical efforts to track the movements of the accused, which revealed that he had fled outside Iraq and stayed there for five days before being lured to Sulaymaniyah .”
He concluded by saying, “After determining his location, our detachments obtained the necessary judicial approvals to arrest him in accordance with the provisions of Article (4) of Terrorism, and he was referred to the competent authorities to take legal action against him.”
