The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced that its Minister, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, chaired a meeting yesterday, Saturday, at the ministry’s headquarters, attended by a number of security leaders, to discuss the ongoing preparations to secure the upcoming Arab summit in the capital, Baghdad .
The ministry said in a statement that the meeting addressed all items on the security agenda, and decisions were taken to ensure the success of the work of the security and intelligence agencies during this occasion .
The Minister of Interior stressed that Baghdad’s reception of kings, presidents and leaders of Arab delegations is an extension of the Iraqi government’s approach, led by Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, in integrating with the Arab environment and strengthening Iraq’s role as a pillar of peace, stability and joint action .
The meeting also included discussions aimed at ensuring the appropriate atmosphere for the success of this upcoming Arab summit, according to the statement .
The Arab League responded to the request of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani to hold the next Arab summit in Baghdad, which he submitted during the Riyadh Summit in May 2023 .
Al-Sudani announced that Baghdad will host the 34th Arab Summit in 2025, after the Arab League’s approval and Syria’s relinquishing of hosting the next session in favor of Iraq .
Al-Sudani stressed that Baghdad will be a platform for enhancing Arab cooperation and facing challenges, renewing Iraq’s commitment to supporting Arab issues and working to make the summit a success and presenting it as a platform for achieving stability and development.
