Minister of Interior Abdul Amir Al-Shammari issued directives to combat drugs . The Ministry of Interior stated in a statement: “The Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, chaired a meeting to listen to the monthly briefing of the General Directorate for Combating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, in the presence of its director and a number of officers in Baghdad and the governorates. He was briefed on the rates of achievement in combating this dangerous scourge and the operations carried out, in addition to the quantities seized .”
The minister stressed, according to the statement, “the importance of completely eliminating drug dealers and pursuing them wherever they are and cleansing the country of these dangerous toxins through concerted efforts and precise professional work according to scientific academic visions based on intelligence efforts .”
He directed “continuing coordination with the Iraqi judiciary to implement arrest warrants against those wanted for this crime and to follow up on the directives and recommendations issued to support the directorate’s work in implementing and enforcing the law,” stressing “the importance of organizing educational awareness campaigns for all segments of Iraqi society, and organizing ongoing lectures in all universities to protect our youth from drugs and expose their negative effects and the dangers they pose to the individual and society.”
