Member of the Parliamentary Education Committee, Firas Al-Maslamawi, revealed The committee has completed the latest amendment to the law on the basis of equivalence of certificates, which is considered one of the important laws for dealing with the equivalence of certificates and academic degrees from outside Iraq .
Al-Maslamawi explained The first amendment relates to the duration of residence for the master’s degree, where the duration was set at nine consecutive months including a two-month vacation, which was not present in the previous laws. As for the research doctorate, the residence was amended to be for a separate period of six months, not consecutive as was previously the case .
Al-Maslamawi pointed out that there is another type of study called “PhD and Post-Bachelor’s”, which combines a master’s degree and a doctorate and takes two calendar years, equivalent to a year and a half of the residency period .
Al-Maslamawi added that one of the most prominent amendments to the law is the obligation of the Ministry of Higher Education to equate certificates within 45 days from the date of submitting the entire transaction to the Scholarships Department, which will ensure the protection of students’ rights .
As for employees, the approval of the relevant department and the ministry to which it belongs for the employee who wishes to study outside Iraq has been removed, and the role of the Ministry of Higher Education has become limited to opening the study file and equating the certificate.
