The Al-Nakheel Center for Press Rights and Freedoms in Iraq described the measures imposed by the government during the two days of the population census as “failed,” noting that journalists were “victims” of these measures .
The center quoted a number of journalists as saying that the curfew measures “failed greatly” and that they suffered greatly in crossing the checkpoints despite the official badges issued to them by the Communications and Media Commission, but many of the checkpoints and their members did not show cooperation with them .
Al Nakheel Center confirms that the efforts made by some security elements represent a “restriction” on the journalist’s work and freedom, which is guaranteed by the constitution and the law. “What is regrettable is that the journalist is always a victim of the failure and confusion of government decisions, which we hope will be overcome on later occasions .”
The Iraqi authorities imposed a two-day curfew that began at midnight on Wednesday, before lifting it at 12 midnight on Thursday, while the curfew between the provinces remained in effect until Friday .
Earlier, a security source in Baghdad reported that the authorities will lift the curfew imposed between the governorates at midnight .
The source said, “The ban on movement between governorates will be lifted at 12 midnight on Friday, Saturday, so that movement will return to normal.”
