The Director of Climate Change at the Iraqi Ministry of Environment announced that Iraq has received financial support from the Green Climate Fund worth $30 million .

Youssef Moayed explained This support came during the 29th Conference of the Parties on Climate Change, which was held in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, noting the importance of this contribution in supporting Iraq’s efforts to confront the challenges of climate change .

Iraq participated in the COP29 climate conference held in Baku, where a $20 billion financing program was announced for the most fragile countries, including Iraq, starting in 2026 .

The head of the parliamentary health and environment committee, Majid Shankali, confirmed Iraq’s rejection of the proposal to get rid of fossil fuels due to its dependence on oil revenues, stressing the importance of shifting towards renewable energy and diversifying the economy .

Iraq also launched its accession document to the ATACH Alliance to study the impact of climate on health, in addition to other documents supported by the Green Climate Fund.
