The National Authority for Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical and Biological Control / Nineveh Branch confirmed The yards of spent iron waste (scrap) in the Al-Jawsaq area are free of radioactive contamination .

A statement by the authority stated “It was confirmed that the spent iron waste (scrap) yards of the University of Nineveh in the Al-Jawsaq area, the College of Nursing, and the College of Medicine were free of radioactive contamination after conducting tests on them .”

The authority’s branch official, Sana Ali Hussein, said, according to the statement: “The radiological survey reports and the results of the readings of field inspection devices conducted by the technical teams of the authority’s branch in Nineveh proved that the iron waste (scrap) located in the Al-Jawsaq area is free of any radioactive contamination .”

She added, “The supervisory teams examined all the scraps located inside the courtyards inside the university and provided them with certificates of safety of the scraps from radioactive contamination issued by the Authority based on the radiation survey reports .”

It is noteworthy that the technical teams of the Commission in Baghdad and the governorates conduct examinations and monitoring campaigns on an ongoing basis to ensure that there are no radioactive contaminants in iron waste sites, areas and population centers, and to provide activities with a radiation safety certificate in accordance with the conditions and requirements approved by the Commission, and to rely in the examination and survey operations on The latest technologies used in evaluating contaminated sites and conducting integrated radiation surveys on scraps using modern radiation level measuring devices .
