Nineveh Governor Abdul Qadir al-Dakhil and Chaldean Catholic Patriarch in Iraq and the world, Cardinal Louis Sako, stressed on Wednesday evening the importance of ensuring the rapid return of Christians to the city of Mosul .
Al-Dakhil said after receiving Sako, “Christians are the original inhabitants of Mosul and their presence there is very important. The Takfiri gangs destroyed everything in Nineveh, but they were unable to destroy the social fabric among its components .”
He explained that the local government has begun to rebuild the old city and is looking forward to a real return of Christians to it, indicating that the governorate administration has begun to rebuild the Maskana Church through the local government budget .
The Nineveh Governor pointed out that “work on the reconstruction of the Hosh al-Bay’a Church Complex is proceeding according to the plans we have set to complete its reconstruction and open it soon,” revealing work on establishing a cultural center for Christians in the old area on the right side of Mosul .
He continued: “It is important for Christians and Yazidis to return to their areas, and we are working with the federal government and the international community on this,” adding: “The Al-Nuri Mosque is opposite the Clock Church, and this reflects the true religious diversity, coexistence and brotherhood between Muslims and their Christian brothers .”
Al-Dakhil concluded by saying, “Cardinal Sako praised the campaign to rebuild the governorate in general and the churches, monasteries and mosques in particular, and to give great attention to the issue of the return of Christians to the city of Mosul.”
