Nineveh Governor Abdul Qader Al-Dakhil announced the approval to increase the seating capacity of Nineveh Stadium, or what is known as the Local Administration Stadium, to 15,000 spectators. Al-Dakhil said during his inspection of the project that work on it will begin within a few days, stressing that the stadium will be opened at the end of this year, according to the confirmations of the company implementing the project .
Captain Mohammed Fathi, supervisor of football at Mosul Sports Club, called on the concerned authorities, headed by the University of Mosul, to expedite the completion of the university stadium so that the club can play matches in the second stage of the Iraqi Premier League on its home ground .
This came after the club’s victory yesterday over the league leader, Al-Gharraf Club, in a match held at Akre Stadium .
Fathi confirmed in a statement to “Mosul Time” radio that Mosul “is the only team in the Iraqi Premier League that is forced to play all its matches outside the city .”
