An informed government source revealed yesterday , Wednesday, that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani will work during his current visit to Spain to obtain international mobilization to prevent any expected Israeli aggression against Iraq .

The source said “Al-Sudani will take advantage of his current visit to Spain to discuss the Israeli threat to Iraq with the European Union and will seek to obtain international Western support and mobilization to stand against any expected Israeli aggression against Iraq, as there is fear of this aggression among the Iraqi government and political parties .”

The source, who requested anonymity, added, “Iraq is moving politically and diplomatically quickly towards the international community and through various gates in order to create international pressure on Tel Aviv to prevent it from carrying out any military attacks on Iraq. Al-Sudani’s visit to Spain and his meetings there will certainly focus on this file, as the file and its danger constitute a top priority for the Iraqi government .”

Earlier yesterday , Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani headed to Spain on an official visit, according to a brief statement from his media office received by Shafaq News Agency .

Al-Sudani received an official invitation from his Spanish counterpart, Pedro Sanchez, on the sidelines of his participation in the work of the Emergency Humanitarian Response Conference in Gaza .

The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasool, had confirmed that the Iraqi forces were “on high alert” and ready to defend the country’s sovereignty in the face of any external threat .

Rasool said, “The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, during the National Security Council meeting, issued direct instructions to the Air Defense Command to take all necessary measures to protect Iraq’s airspace and provide all the necessary requirements to enhance the defense of national sovereignty. He also directed the security and intelligence agencies to collect and analyze information continuously, while submitting detailed reports to the Commander-in-Chief every 12 hours .”

Rasool stressed that the armed forces, with all their formations, are on high alert and ready to confront any aggression .

On the other hand, Major General Rasool confirmed that the Iraqi government supports diplomatic efforts, and that Iraqi diplomacy is working to confront Israeli threats through its participation in an emergency meeting of the Arab League at the delegate level .

The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously announced, in a statement, that it had sent official letters to the Security Council, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, “in response to Israel’s threats to attack Iraq .”

These threats came officially through Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, who sent a letter to the President of the UN Security Council, urging immediate action to confront the activities of armed groups loyal to Iran in Iraq .

On November 18, the Israeli newspaper Maariv reported: “The security establishment is preparing to deal with the emerging threat after the sharp increase in the number of attacks from Iraq from only 6 drone attacks last August, to 31 attacks last September, and then to 90 attacks last October. Since the beginning of this month, more than 65 launches have been recorded .”

Earlier, the “Hezbollah Brigades in Iraq”, one of the most prominent factions that, within the framework of the Iraqi resistance, adopts its attacks against Israel, announced the continuation of “Operations to Support Gaza” despite the ceasefire in Lebanon that was announced yesterday by US President Joe Biden.
