Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said that the Iraqi state cannot continue with the policy of appointment in the government sector .
This came during his reception of a group of dignitaries and farmers from Al-Zubair district and areas west of Basra Governorate, to listen to the problems related to the reality of agriculture and the needs of young people in these areas .
Al-Sudani stressed, during the meeting, Iraq needs to work diligently to diversify the sources of the economy and overcome the fluctuations in oil prices, which represent the main source of the financial and economic sector in the country, noting that continuing the policy of appointment in the government sector is something that the state cannot bear .
He explained that the government is concerned with protecting the national product, including agricultural products, according to the law in force for this purpose, directing the governors to pay attention to the agricultural associations, and the necessity for the head of the association to be a partner in managing the affairs of the farmers and solving their problems. Al-Sudani also directed the study of a proposal to provide loans to the agricultural associations or investors to establish factories for agricultural products .
In the same context, the Prime Minister directed the formation of a committee to develop solutions to the problems of renewing farmers’ contracts, and to set controls for supplying farmers with the fuel needed to operate agricultural machines, stressing the need to adhere to agricultural timings, with regard to border crossings, and coordination between security agencies to protect the local product, and directing the submission of a study on rural roads in order to work on paving them by service and engineering efforts.
