Federal Ministry of Transport confirmed the existence of a plan to activate mass transit bus lines in 6 governorates, while noting the success of experiments with paying fares for mass transit line tickets via phone and the POS system .
Director of Media and Relations at the Ministry, Maytham Al-Safi, said “Based on the directives of the Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhaibas Al-Saadawi, preparations have been completed for the process of activating the payment of tickets for mass transit lines via phone and the ( POS) system.” To refer this project to tender or direct invitations to contract; For the purpose of facilitating the payment process and eliminating the problems that accompany the cash payment process .”
He added, “Many experiments were conducted in the last phase and were crowned with success,” explaining, “The current phase will witness the completion of the legal contracting procedures and their referral to specialized companies to facilitate the payment process, as well as the automation of some work aspects related to this mechanism .”
Regarding activating mass transportation in the governorates, Al-Safi confirmed, “There are mass transportation lines that have been activated in Nineveh, Kirkuk, Diyala, Salah al-Din, Najaf al-Ashraf, and Basra in a simple way,” pointing out, “Work is underway and preparations are continuing to activate lines in other governorates, such as Dhi Qar, after the provision is made.” (Driver) is one of the job grades assigned to these governorates .”
He continued, “The company has completed all its preparations for operation in the governorates, as the governors expressed their desire to activate this project,” noting, “What remains is only the preparation of the paths and (drivers) by the governorates to launch the project.”
