US Central Command revealed Four ISIS leaders were among 14 killed in a joint US-Iraqi operation in the Anbar desert in western Iraq late last August .
“As part of the ongoing assessment following the raid, CENTCOM can confirm the deaths of four ISIS leaders, including: the person responsible for all operations in Iraq, the person responsible for overseeing all operations in western Iraq, the person responsible for overseeing technical development, and the person responsible for overseeing military operations in western Iraq ,” the U.S. Central Command added .
The US Central Command added that the raid was aimed at disrupting and degrading ISIS’s ability to plan, organize and carry out attacks in Iraq and throughout the Middle East .
The US Central Command had previously reported that 15 ISIS elements were killed by US forces and Iraqi security forces during the raid .
According to US Central Command, the militants were armed with multiple weapons, grenades and explosive “suicide” belts .
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced at the end of last August that 7 American soldiers were injured during the “joint raid” carried out with the Iraqi security forces in Anbar Governorate, western Iraq .
It is noteworthy that the Iraqi forces had announced in a previous statement the killing of ISIS leaders in the joint operation, based on accurate intelligence information within the framework of Operation “Lions’ Leap” in the desert of Anbar Governorate, western Iraq, which was launched (late August) and included 3 ground operations and the landing of airborne forces.
