The Arab League Council warned, yesterday , Sunday, of the danger of the comprehensive Israeli escalation that threatens to erupt into a broad regional war that threatens security and stability in the region, calling on the Security Council to assume its responsibilities towards the escalation .
The Council of the League of Arab States, at the level of permanent delegates, called on the international community, in the resolution issued by the emergency meeting to mobilize international support to confront the Israeli measures in an attempt to expand its aggressive and escalatory practices in the region, to work to curb the aggressive Israeli policies in a manner consistent with international law and international legitimacy resolutions .
The Council of the League of Arab States condemned Israel’s attempt to expand its aggressive practices in the region, including Iraq, through the letter sent by the Israeli Foreign Minister to the President of the Security Council, considering that letter as a blatant attempt to justify the Israeli aggressive escalation and expand the scope of the war in the region, and to divert attention from the ongoing crimes against the Palestinian people and the aggressive practices in the Lebanese Republic and the Syrian Arab Republic .
The Council of the League of Arab States also condemned the “crimes of aggression, genocide and ethnic cleansing” that Israel continues to commit against the Palestinian people and the “crimes of aggression” on the territories of the Lebanese Republic and the Syrian Arab Republic, and the heavy losses in lives and property that they cause, and considered them a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and war crimes that require international accountability .
The Council of the League of Arab States stressed its condemnation of the Israeli government’s practices towards the United Nations, which “have reached a stage that the organization has not faced since its founding,” considering the escalation and attack against the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), the declaration of the UN Secretary-General as a persona non grata, and the public and systematic targeting of the UN peacekeeping forces (UNIFIL), all of which require the Security Council to take deterrent measures to stop these actions .
The Arab League Council condemned the United States’ use of its veto for the fourth time against a resolution calling for an immediate, permanent and unconditional ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, calling on the United States to review its “biased positions towards the Israeli occupation” that would obstruct the Security Council’s responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security .
The Council of the League of Arab States requested the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the President of the Security Council to carry out their international mandate to maintain international peace and security, and to take all measures authorized by the Security Council under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, to stop the Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and the Lebanese Republic, and the attacks on the Syrian Arab Republic .
The Council of the League of Arab States welcomed the decision of the International Criminal Court, which includes arrest warrants for the Israeli Prime Minister and former Minister of Defense, calling on all states parties to the Rome Statute establishing the International Criminal Court to commit to cooperating with the International Criminal Court in this regard and not to politicize the decisions of the Court .
The Arab League Council condemned the Israeli authorities’ digging of trenches and raising of earthen berms along the ceasefire line, which were documented by UNDOF reports, warning of the seriousness of these actions, which violate Security Council resolutions and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement .
An emergency meeting of the Council of the League of Arab States was held on Sunday at the level of permanent delegates, chaired by the Republic of Yemen and based on the request of the Republic of Iraq and the support of all member states, to discuss Arab steps to respond to the letter of the Foreign Minister of the Israeli occupation government regarding his claim of increasing the frequency and intensity of attacks on him through Iraqi territory, to justify his methodology of escalation and expanding the scope of war in the region.
