Yesterday , Monday, the Nineveh Workers’ Union called on the goldsmiths in the city of Mosul to return to the central goldsmiths’ market located in the heart of the old city .
This call comes as the market reconstruction work continues as part of the local government’s plan to restore life to the right side of Mosul .
Ashraf Sharif, a member of the Nineveh Workers’ Union, said, “The reconstruction work of the goldsmiths’ market is being carried out with the support of Nineveh Governorate and implemented by Mosul Municipality,” noting that “the work combines the spirit of Mosul heritage and modernity .”
Sharif called on shop owners in the market to return and open their shops immediately after the completion of the reconstruction work, stressing that efforts are continuing to restore commercial and economic activity to the heart of Old Mosul after years of destruction .
This ancient market, like the rest of Mosul’s markets and areas, suffered from the ISIS invasion of the city in 2014, which is the local capital of Nineveh Governorate. It was destroyed by the war, as was the case in most areas of old Mosul, as a result of the military operations that lasted for three years and resulted in the military defeat of the organization.
