Nabil Abdel Baqi, General Manager of Al Salam General Company, one of the formations of the Ministry of Communications, said that the blocking of the IMDb website came as a result of monitoring “low and immoral content on the aforementioned website in more than one direction .”
IMDb is the largest online database of information on movies, TV series, podcasts, home videos, and video games .
The site is also used by critics to evaluate and classify cinematic and television works .
Abdul Baqi said, “The blocking came after examining the content broadcast by the IMDb website , which was deemed offensive to the fabric of Iraqi society and targeting its traditions and values .”
He added that “the blocking decision was not random, contrary to what is being promoted, but rather was made after continuous monitoring and follow-up, and on that basis the site was blocked because it promotes low-level content that includes a number of pornographic films and immoral pages,” he said.
