Director of Damascus International Airport, Anis Falouh, confirmed that Damascus Airport has returned to service and is operating a number of flights after they were temporarily halted following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on December 8, 2024 .
Falouh said, “Damascus Airport began operating flights to Erbil and Baghdad yesterday, Sunday,” indicating that “there is a plan to increase the number of flights between Iraq and Syria according to the number of passengers in the coming days .”
He explained, “There are flights received by Damascus Airport from some Arab countries, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, except for the UAE, where negotiations are still ongoing between the two sides .”
Syrian Airlines announced on Wednesday (January 7) the temporary suspension of air traffic with the UAE .
The Director of Damascus Airport pointed out that “there is a request from some foreign countries to Syria to operate their flights to Damascus in the coming days .”
Flights to and from Damascus Airport resumed (Tuesday, January 6) after weeks of suspension following the fall of the Syrian regime and the completion of rehabilitation work .
On the same day, Syrian Airlines carried out a flight to Sharjah Airport in the UAE, and returned to Damascus Airport. The first Qatar Airways passenger plane also arrived at Damascus Airport coming from Doha after an interruption of more than 13 years.
