Dozens of residents of the Bab Sinjar residential complex in the center of Mosul, the capital of Nineveh Governorate, demonstrated yesterday , in protest against a government decision to evacuate the complex and leave it within a specific period of time .
Participants in the protest said: “Dozens of residents of the complex demonstrated in protest against the decision to vacate the complex in which they have lived for two years .”
They added, “The complex was provided as a grant from the Japanese government and was allocated to displaced families and those returning to Mosul, especially poor families,” indicating that the Mosul Municipality gave the residents of the complex, which includes 350 housing units in the Bab Sinjar area, a deadline to vacate it within a week .”
The demonstrators pointed out that the local authorities in Nineveh will work to remove the beneficiaries from the complex in order to exploit it for rental purposes, according to them .
They noted that they live in the complex according to a two-year contract, which has expired, but they expressed their surprise at the sudden eviction decision, appealing to the local authorities in Nineveh to delay the decision and allow them to remain in the complex and renew their housing contracts for another period, as they do not have a house to live in after their homes were destroyed during military operations.
