A group of Election Commission employees on Election Day complained that they were not paid their dues for participating as temporary polling employees at the Independent High Electoral Commission.

Muhammad Hamdoun said in an interview with Mosul Time Radio that they are in Nineveh Governorate, and despite the passage of more than a year since the provincial council elections were held in December 2023, their financial dues amounting to 150,000 dinars have not been disbursed yet.

As for Ali Salman, who worked as a temporary employee on Election Day, he pointed out that despite the government’s pledge to pay the dues of the election employees, it did not pay the temporary employees their dues, indicating that the Election Commission had obtained 6,000 dinars from each temporary employee in the Commission under the name of contract wages without paying the employees’ dues stipulated in the contract, according to him.

Provincial council elections were held in all Iraqi provinces in December 2023, but employees’ dues have not been paid yet, even though the country is heading towards new legislative elections next October.
