A member of the Nineveh Provincial Council revealed that the council is moving to discuss the issue of preventing construction on lands surrounding Mosul that are controlled by some armed factions .

The council member, who preferred not to be named, said, “The council intends to host the director of Mosul Municipality, Abdul Sattar Al-Habou, to discuss the issue of preventing construction in some areas of Mosul by some influential parties in the city .”

On the other hand, government sources revealed that armed factions impose sums of $2,000 to $3,000 in exchange for allowing the construction of a plot of land with an area of 200 meters .

Sources say that “hundreds of citizens were forced to pay these amounts in exchange for building their lands in the areas of education, Al-Kindi, and others, which are under the control of an armed faction, and that the ban is under the pretext of demographic change.” For his part, the director of the Mosul municipality, Abdul Sattar Al-Habou, denied the rumors about the existence of demographic change .

Al-Habou said, “More than 9,000 official government bonds have been prevented from building on their lands in areas on the outskirts of Mosul that are part of the basic design of Mosul, and there is no truth to the claims of demographic change.”
