Undersecretary of the Ministry, Karim Al-Nouri, said, “The camps for the displaced were distributed in the region, including 16 camps in Dohuk, inhabited by 23,000 families, and 6 camps in Erbil, inhabited by 28,000 families, in addition to several camps in Sulaymaniyah .”

He added, “We are working to raise the slogan of Iraq without camps,” noting that “the Iraqi government is fully committed to ending the plight of the displaced in their homeland .”

He stated , “It is not true that we have reached the middle of 2024 and we still have displaced people,” pointing out that “the Ministry clarified the positions of the people of many areas that witnessed displacement, and we found a great response and interaction from all regions to return the displaced, and many are helping the returnees, and this is a characteristic of Iraqis .”

He stressed that “all conditions are prepared to return the displaced to their areas while monitoring their affairs and circumstances, and there is a great desire from most of the displaced to return, as the camp cannot be turned into permanent housing .”

He continued, “Victory cannot be achieved except by ending the plight of the displaced, since the effects of ISIS are displacement, and when we end this, we may complete all the stages of victory,” explaining, “We are seeking to close 22 camps, distributed as 16 camps in Dohuk and six camps in Erbil, while Sulaymaniyah has been evacuated from the camps.” “.

He stated that “the understanding between the region and the federal government is great, and this will provide us with large spaces for movement in order to end the plight of the displaced,” pointing out that “the areas to which the displaced mainly return are inhabited, qualified, and have services .”

He stressed that “all the citizens to which the displaced returned did not witness any security breach, meaning that there was response and interaction from the areas to which the displaced returned .”
