Ministry of Industry spokeswoman Doha Al-Jubouri said “The Ministry has developed a comprehensive vision since the current government assumed its duties and began its first steps for reform and development in line with the government program by focusing on important strategic industries that include the iron and steel industries, petrochemicals, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, sulfur and phosphate industries, in addition to the cement, petrochemical and electrical industries .”
She explained that “the movement is underway to advance the project to rehabilitate iron and steel factories in Basra Governorate to secure the local need for rebar and in line with the reconstruction and construction campaign,” indicating that “the rolling mill was opened in Basra Governorate, affiliated with the General Iron and Steel Company, after its rehabilitation was completed, and after a 21-year hiatus.” General, and specializes in the production of rebar with diameters of 8 mm up to 32 mm, with a capacity of 500 thousand tons annually. It contains modern equipment and laboratories and a programmed control system. Its production is distinguished by its superior quality and its conformity with the American standard, which is considered one of the highest international standards .

She added: “The first production line of the urea fertilizer factory was opened after its rehabilitation in partnership with the private sector, to contribute, along with the second production line, which is managed by the staff of the General Company for the Southern Fertilizer Industry, to produce more than 2,000 tons per day,” noting that “the urea fertilizer is fully prepared for the Ministry of Agriculture.” “.
She continued: “The continuous casting factory was opened in Baghdad Governorate by the Prime Minister. It was rehabilitated and operated in partnership with the Turkish Nour Soy Company and works with advanced technology to invest iron scrap and turn it into sheets ready for rolling, with a capacity of 600 thousand tons annually .”
She confirmed that “the current government opened the pivotal sprinkler factory affiliated with the General Company for Automotive and Equipment Manufacturing, which was established in partnership with the private sector with a capacity of 1,100 sprinklers annually. These sprinklers are produced according to American (FAL) specifications for areas (60-80-120-180) acres and are prepared for the Ministry.” Agriculture in order to support the agricultural sector .”
She pointed out that “the ministry’s plan also included rehabilitating and restarting stopped and idle factories and establishing new factories and projects,” stressing that “those factories that were opened will provide job opportunities and employ a workforce .”
She noted that “the Ministry is serious in its steps, as it worked to reconstruct the Al-Qaim Cement Plant in a record period and rotate the wheel of production in it during the month of March of the year 2023 to supply construction projects in the governorates with resistant cement and restore work movement in the Hammam Al-Alil Cement Plant in Nineveh Governorate to produce cement for the filling of the Mosul Dam.” In addition to modernizing and developing cement factories in Kufa, Samawah, and Nineveh, in a way that enhances the cement industry in Iraq .”
Al-Jubouri confirmed, “The Ministry intends to open a steel factory in Basra Governorate, affiliated with the General Iron and Steel Company,” noting that there is “There is strong interest from the government in pursuing this important project, and it is hoped that it will be opened in the coming months .”
Electronic services
She stated, “The Ministry, with direct support from the Minister of Industry, granted facilities to the private sector, including four electronic services through the Ur electronic portal, which allows industrialists the ability to apply for the industrial project electronically, and it is hoped that all services will be electronic by the end of this year .”
She continued, “The Trademark Department continues to support the private sector and complete the trademark in a very short record time,” indicating that “requests continue for all projects, whether food, construction, or chemical .”
She continued, “The factories that were opened are strategic and support the agricultural sector and the Iraqi market, such as the cement produced by the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, which has received the Iraqi quality certificate from the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control, and is the best cement produced within the region, and most of the cement factories affiliated with the Ministry of Industry have been converted.” To gas systems, first to reduce costs, and second to improve the environment .”
Contracts concluded
The spokeswoman for the Ministry of Industry confirmed that “4 contracts were concluded under the auspices of the Prime Minister with specialized companies, and a true translation of the implementation of the government program, and in reality the contract of the General Mishraq Sulfur Company in Nineveh Governorate in partnership with a specialized American company to establish an integrated project for extracting and filtering sulfur in the Al-Lazzakah field with energy capacity.” Two million and 500 thousand tons annually, in addition to another project that included the rehabilitation and development of the refined sulfur production line in the Mishraq field in Nineveh Governorate, with a capacity of one million and 500 tons annually, in addition to the signing of a contract to establish a compound fertilizer project at the General Company for the Northern Fertilizer Industry in Baiji, in partnership with an Emirati company with a capacity 240 thousand tons annually, as this project produces types of compound phosphate fertilizers that will contribute to supporting the agricultural sector, as well as the signing of a contract to establish a sodium carbonate project in Anbar Governorate with a capacity of 90 thousand tons annually .”
She added, “These contracts are the outcomes of the conferences held by the Ministry of Industry and Minerals (the Mineral, Cement and Fertilizer Investment Conference in Baghdad) under the patronage and presence of the Prime Minister, while revealing that the approval of the Supreme Committee for Reconstruction and Investment had been obtained to establish the industrial city project in Basra Governorate in partnership with a Chinese company.” This project will be established on an area of 3,000 dunums and will include factories specialized in the production of iron, steel, and aluminum, and will provide approximately 12,000 job opportunities for Basra Governorate .”
She continued, “The approval of the Supreme Committee for Reconstruction and Investment was obtained for a project to produce glass bottles and jars in Anbar Governorate, with a capacity of 60,000 tons annually, and a project to produce flat glass with a capacity of 60 tons per day also in Anbar Governorate,” adding that “these projects that have been approved are for the outputs.” The investment forum that was held in Basra Governorate and the Mineral Investment Conference in Baghdad Governorate .”
