The Nineveh Heritage and Antiquities Inspectorate Department revealed the start of rehabilitation and maintenance work on the Nineveh Archaeological Wall, one of the historical landmarks in the city of Mosul.

Director of the Nineveh Heritage and Antiquities Inspectorate, Rawid Muwaffaq, said, “The rehabilitation work on the ancient wall of Nineveh on the northwestern side began with funding from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities .”

He added, “The goal of rehabilitating the wall is to revive the antiquities of this area and link them to the Mosul community,” noting that “work is underway to rehabilitate many archaeological areas, including the riverfront in the heart of the city of Mosul, Najafi Street, the Goldsmiths Market, and other sites, with funding from the two federal governments. ” And local .”

The ancient Wall of Nineveh is located on the left side of the city of Mosul and dates back to the Assyrian era, and parts of it were destroyed by ISIS fighters during their years of occupation of the governorate .

In 2015, ISIS published pictures of the demolition of the “ Al-Masqa ” Gate , or the so-called “ Mashki ” Gate, in the Nineveh Wall, which dates back to the Assyrian era .
